THE SBA AND REGENT UNIVERSITY TO CONDUCT A SYMPOSIUM FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS
RICHMOND, VA – A business development symposium, targeting new and growing business owners in the Hampton Roads area, is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Regent University, Library Auditorium, Virginia Beach, Va.
To register for the symposium, contact James Williams at the SBA by calling (804) 771-2400, ext. 123 or email him at james.williams@sba.gov or visit the SBA’s web page at www.sba.gov/va.
SBA helps small businesses succeed in three primary ways, access to capital, counseling and training and federal procurement. “The agenda for this event includes briefings about all of the SBA’s programs,” said Ron Bew, District Director of the SBA’s Richmond District Office. “The economy of America is at its strongest when the nation’s small businesses are at their strongest. This is a great opportunity for all business owners, regardless of whether they are start-up businesses or existing operations.”
Don’t miss the tremendous opportunity to learn how the SBA and its resource partners work together to help you start and grow a viable small business. “Business owners in the City of Virginia Beach and the surrounding cities of Hampton, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, and Suffolk are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet industry experts and learn about the products and services available to assist them through the SBA,” Bew added.
Regent University is hosting this symposium under the President’s Faith-based and Community Organization Initiative. The program, organized by the U.S. Small Business Administration, is part of a national effort to raise awareness about the Agency’s financial assistance, counseling services and federal procurement opportunities.
Faith-Based and Community organizations across the country are now taking advantage of the SBA’s programs. These and other grass-roots organizations have a long history of providing essential services to people in need throughout the United States and outreach through these organizations is now a national priority. The goal is to remove those traditional barriers that may have prevented businesses within these organizations from receiving financial and technical assistance in the past. The aim of this initiative is to create a "level playing field" for these business owners within these faith-based and other community organizations that need federal assistance to deliver their goods and services.
“The SBA is the one resource entrepreneurs turn to more than any other,” Bew said. “Billions of dollars in financial assistance and billions more in federal contracts are made available to small business owners each year; after all, small business sustains this country’s economy.”
The federal government is the world’s largest buyer of goods and services, from complex space vehicles to paper clips and from janitorial services to cancer research. More than $300 billion in goods and services are purchased each year.
The SBA’s goal is to maintain and strengthen the nation's economy by aiding, counseling, assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses and by helping families and businesses recover from national disasters. Visit our website www.sba.gov/va for more information about the SBA’s programs and services.
